Here’s a little gem of a sketch from SNL’s 12th season, which aired on November 22, 1986. This was the the first season of SNL greats such as the late, great Phil Hartman and Jan Hooks. This particular episode was hosted by Robin Williams and the musical guest was Paul Simon.
This sketch struck me because while the premise is making fun of stock market investment strategies that were common in the mid-1980s, it was actually YEARS ahead of its time considering the way google adwords and keyword strategies would eventually evolve on the internet. One could literally “invest” in a website dedicated to a particular keyword based on research into the search term strings that were trending upwards.
