The Comedy Bang Bang podcast hosted by Scott Aukerman has been my favorite, weekly listen since late 2013. Along with featuring interviews with celebrities and comedians and long-form improvised silliness with characters who’ve established a sprawling lore over the years, it has given a platform for musicians and sound artists who submit themes for the opening and closing of the segment when guests plug their upcoming work.
I’ve had a few ideas, but never actually put the time into editing something together for it, until a couple of weeks ago. I usually listen to CBB overnight while I sleep, so I woke up one morning and heard an episode with Ben Schwartz and Andy Daly as the character “Hot Dog.” In the lore of the show, ‘Hot Dog’ had heard Scott say the premier catchphrase for the show, “What’s up hot dog?” and figured he needed to come onto the show and tell Scott what’s up. During the long-form improvised conversation, it was revealed that Hot Dog is a huge fan of Sha Na Na and the three of them break into various songs, one of them a stylized Doo-Wop version of “Goodnight Sweetheart” a la Sha Na Na.
I had an idea for remixing bits of the song they sang with some of the plug bag drops offered by Engineer Brett on cbbworld.com, and after messing around for a couple of hours on audacity, here’s what I came up with
Two Longlegs Up
The episode was number 881 entitled to Long legs up. The sound drop is towards the end when they finish playing the would You Rather game and open up the plug bag so all the celebrities can talk about what they’re doing.
